Biography

He was the second son of August Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Kohary and his wife Archduchess Karoline Marie, Princess of Tuscany.

The deaths of his older brother August (1908) and his father (1922), made him the next in line of the succession of the Kohary branch of Saxe-Gotha family.

In Munich on 15 December 1930 Rainer married, first, Johanna Károlyi de Károly-Patty. They had one son:

  1. Johann Heinrich Frederick Werner Konrad Rainer Maria (b. Innsbruck, 28 March 1931 - d. Innsbruck, 14 April 2010).

Rainer and Johanna were divorced in 1935.

In Budapest, on 13 February 1940, Rainer married, second, Edith de Kózol. They had no children.
